Empties!!! July - August

Friday, August 31, 2012

This is my first ever empties post! I got to the point where I was flat out hoarding items because I didn't want to finish them. Some were because I knew I couldn't get them anymore, others were because I didn't like it. Hoarding does no good, so it was time to use it all up!
No, I didn't do a video =(. So sad.

Aromatherapy Bath & Body Works Sleep Lotion
I am someone who wants aromatherapy to work so bad, but thinks it may be more of a placebo effect than anything else. At the end of the day, if it makes me sleepy I'm with that =). I've actually been holding onto this bottle for several years and finally finished it one day.

Almay Hypoallergenic deodorant
Not going to lie, I bought this because I didn't know Almay made deodorant, and I wanted to try it. It's ok, I guess. Did the job, but I'm not a fan of gel under my arms. Feels wet and just ew.

Organix Moroccan Oil Shampoo
When I first started using it, I LOVED it. As time went on, I noticed that it was doing nothing for my hair, and was just using it up for the sack of finishing it. It's ok, I guess, but nothing special.

Photobucket
Boots Cleansing Milk
This is actually what made me start doing this. It was sitting around, not being used it because I knew Target stopped carrying it. The scent is lavender, and it's just so lovely to use.
Sadly,
Covergirl Clean Oil Control
Ok, this foundation would be great if it wasn't for the horrible bottle! Seriously, I had to leave it upside down for any chance of getting any out even when it was full.

Mark Matte Chance
I did a full review on this, and my opinions have not changed - click

Avon Clearskin Blemish Clearing Foaming Cleanser
That's a mouth full. I like this product. It doesn't feel too harsh, and it does the job. At the moment I had to stop using it because I am on my second bottle, and that means it's time to switch it up!

Aromatherapy Bath & Body Works Stress ReliefLotion
I like the way it smells. It's borderline masculine smelling, which is kind of weird, but oh well.
EOS Shaving Cream
I feel like the whole EOS line is over hyped. It's a normal shaving cream, not worth the price tag. Packaging is cute though, and it does smell nice.
Aussie Cleanse and Mend Shampoo
What is wrong with Aussie???? They cut this out of their line! Ugh. It was the only regular shampoo that I found that was for oily hair. It worked WONDERS. I have these stupid hairs that stick up when my hair gets oily, and this tamed it for at least 24 hours. Now I'm lucky to get 6 hours of tamed hair. It was the only thing that worked =( Gel, mouse, hair spray, nothing can hold them down. This was another product that I was hoarding. Can you blame me?
Sadly =(,

Lots of products that I'm not repurchasing, some because I can't, others because I don't like them. I can't wait to get more aromatherapy stuff. I've been having trouble sleeping lately, and I am ready to dive into that placebo effect!! I don't care if it's all in my head, if I fall asleep at the end of the night that's fine with me!

What have you finished this month? Will you repurchase it?

Meet Olivia

Thursday, August 30, 2012

I consider this blog as a part of my life now, and therefor so are all of you who are reading this. I don't mind letting you into little parts of my life, I always talk about my rabbits on here, and I figured it was high time that my cat get a little bit of spot light! She is my second love, being behind my husband of course. I don't think she was meant to be a cat, she has no sense of balance, and I find myself having to catch her when she falls off the counter. No lie. One time Spencer was petting her, and she fell off the couch! She'll be standing there on the counter, and her foot will slip off. My poor cat. Life is just too hard for a little indoor kitty.

I tried to put these in order of how old she was. Some are cell phone pictures, so please excuse the horrible quality!

I believe she was only 4 weeks old here. She was born outside (momma was a barn kitty) and we had to fish her littermates out to get to her. She was the only one who did not hiss as Spencer. We chose her when she was a few days old because of the dot on her head. She was all black according to the pictures (I can't speak for that foot, never really got to see it), and we didn't care if it was a girl or a boy, we wanted that one!

For the longest time this is what she would do with the scratching board until one day I took her paws, and made a scratching motion on the board for her. Now she is obsessed with them.

She used to chew on wood. My bed, the kitchen chairs, anything wood likely had chew marks because of her.

Olivia, my dog Lexi, and my dad's cat Magic used to cuddle together on the couch all the time!

This was after parading her around the house in the basket (she went in willingly).

She does these things on her own, and I just happen to be around to take a picture of it. Makes me wonder what shenanigans she gets into when I'm not home.

Now I want to leave you with a video of her playing around. I was sitting on the couch, sorry for the bad filming. It was zoomed in all the way. You can watch it in 720p, if it helps any =). Song is Daniel by Dia Frampton.

Bunny in the background is Paige. She is an older girl, and does not mind Olivia or her crazy antics =D

10 Day Beauty Challenge - Day 8

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

These are products that I bought that I don't use, or that I hardly ever use. It's not because I don't like them, it's just something that I don't reach for because I like something else more.

1. Piggy Polish Strong Like Jazz - I got this for free with Ulta rewards points. I let my husband pick out the color, and this is what I got.
2. Zoya Gemma - I actually like this color, I am just never in the mood to wear it.
3. Julep Melissa - Again, I like it, but I'm just never in the right mood.

Do you have any nail polish/make up that you love, but never wear?

Models Own Beach Party - Swatch

Beach Party is a neon orange. I applied 2 coats, with enough opacity to please me, but 3 coats would be best. I got my bottle on Copious, but there are other e-tailers that ship to the US and Canada such as Harlow & Co and Ninja Polish.

Overall I really love the quality of this brand. I only have two from them, and have intentions on purchasing more. The wear is great, I had it on for 4 days before I started seeing any chips in the polish.

10 Day Beauty Challenge - Day 7

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Four used is supposed to stand for four most used. Since this is supposed to be primarily a nail blog, I'll go ahead and stick with my most used nail polish.

1. China Glaze Twinkle Lights - A holiday favorite!
2. Essie Adore-A-Ball - It whitens my nails, even if it's the wrong shade.
3. Essie Sugar Daddy - The perfect french manicure.
4. Julep Freida - Quickly becoming a favorite.

Look inside my Dooney!

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Not sure if any of you know, but Florida, particularly the west coast aka where I am, is carefully watching Tropical Storm Isaac. Now, this little friend of ours is gaining strength FAST. Over night it went from this little baby that will become a category one for a little bit to one that will be a category 2. Oh Gulf of Mexico, why are you so darn warm? This is a heads up, I have scheduled a series of posts that will go up in the case of a power outage. Yikes! I may or may not respond to any comments during that time, it really depends on the power. I will be back! So, without further delay, here is what I keep inside my Disney Graffica Print Dooney & Bourke! Tacky, right?

"What's in my bag" videos and posts are one of my favorites. It's interesting to see what someone takes with them, and I think it gives a more personable look into who a person is.

My purse is a Dooney and Bourke Disney Sketch Large Tote bag that I got at the Disney parks. It's still available at Disney, but for some reason they took it offline. It was $195, if you care. I really like the bag. I wish it had either feet or a solid bottom, but It has yet to attract dirt, even on the bottom. I will  say that it got wet (curse you tropical storm Debbie), and the leather is now discolored which was NOT supposed to happen. I looked up the care instructions on the website and they said that if it got wet, it would dry back to normal. This is not the case with my bag, and I'm looking into what my options with it are. I'll still use it, it's not widely noticeable. I'll probably wait until it darkens, similar to Louis Vuitton bags, but not as extreme.

Hand lotion/cream
I keep some kind of hand cream with me, this time it's Anew Clinical that my mom gave me with SPF 15. I have a Julep sample with SPF 30 that I meant to try on my trip to Orlando, but the sun wasn't out (grr Tropical Storm Debbie), and I completely forgot to use it.

Tissues
Kleenex for allergies and runny noses.

Bobby pins
 Because my hair goes wild.

Ipod Nano 3rd Gen
My favorite Ipod for listening to music. I use this more than my Touch. It's so tiny. My mom let me "borrow" it, but I don't think she's getting it back lol. No harm, I got an Ipod Touch with my computer (education pricing bonus thing), and I gave that to her since I already have one.

Not one, but TWO chap sticks.
Burt's Bees is a favorite, I will never abandon it (I love the menthol tingling feeling) and a Basin Chapstick which I LOVE. Almost as much as Burt's Bees.

Notebook
For writing down lists and ideas for the various projects I have going on.

Nook Simple Touch in a Jonathan Adler cover
Currently reading Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring, if you're wondering.

U by Kotex
Do I need to explain this?

Two pocket knives
No, I'm not crazy! One is my husband's (outdoorsy type, and his mom put in there so her wouldn't forget it in Orlando) and the little one is mine. I use it a lot when I'm out with the rabbits, usually to cut stuff (not the rabbits, obviously). Maybe I should have left them out, I look like a crazy person.

Sock pouch
Bought it at Pier One Imports. Holds my change.

Eyeglass case
My contact case is in there, as my glasses are on my face. Funny story: My husband was looking for his glasses a while back and as I came out of the bathroom he looked at me and said "where are your glasses,  maybe they're with yours?" I replied: "On my face". Good times.

Pencil
For my notebook, useless without it.

Tweaserman nail file pack
'Cause one isn't enough.

Business cards
For my rabbit related business, not for my blog.

Inside of that pouch

Summer's Eve Wipes
Again, do I need to explain this?

Scope Outlast
Fresh teeth =)

Nail File
Yup.. obsessive

Kleenex
When I get the sneezies, I don't stop!

Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle
Only makeup item I carry

Pills
One on the bottom is my allergy pill (mint flavor, really weird), in the Aleve bottle is a mixture of Excedrin, Tylenol, Aleve, Tylenol PM, and Ibuprofen. Tums bottle has tums. You never know when you need it. Yes, I know what they all look like and what they all are.

Wallet
By Guess, bought at Macy's

Thumb drives, jump drives, whatever
The pink one has my pictures in it, and the plumbob (I am so cool) has misc. stuff on there.

Phone
BlackBerry Bold 9700

Sunglasses
Oakley Miss Conduct. I needed to get more expensive sunglasses. I don't loose these, and I take better care of them. I have gone through so many pairs before these.

Keys!!
Mickey looking things are from Disney, one is a fish and the other is Chip. The pig is an FFA branded one. They're attached to the bag for easy access.

Random stuff that is now in the trash. Not sure why that Amscot stub is there, it's way old.

10 Day Beauty Challenge - Day 6

Friday, August 24, 2012

Tips! I love tips. Some of these may be funny, but they are soooo true!

1. Before you begin applying your nail polish, please use the restroom first!
2. Bad at applying polish? Keep practicing.
3. Always check the sale section when shopping. It's amazing what you can find there.
4. Hold the cotton ball on the nail before trying to work it off. This is how the foil method works, the foil really doesn't do anything.
5. Go bold, or go home. Don't be afraid to wear those crazy colors!

Share some of your tips beauty, or not beauty related.

Repurposing candle jars!

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Who knew these old candle jars could be useful? A while ago I watched a youtube video about removing the wax from the jar, and reusing it for a brush holder. I though "ok, cool" and put it in the back of my mind. A few days ago I realized that this candle had maybe 5 hours worth of burning time left so I thought "why not make this into something". I couldn't really decide what exactly I wanted to use it for.

Yesterday I was reorganizing my nail polish, and realized that my minis needed to find a new home. They didn't fit anymore! Then the lightbulb turned on, and I realized that this jar would be PERFECT to hold all my minis in it, and it looks super cute in the process.

My easy instructions on cleaning the candle:
1. Burn candle until wick runs out. Easy to tell because one by one they'll stop burning and you can't light it anymore.
2. Stick candle in freezer. There was still a little bit of melted wax in my candle. I stuck mine in for about 2 hours.
3. Grab a knife and start breaking away the wax. There was already a large crack in mine, and it made it easier to remove all of the wax.
4. Remove the wicks. The video said to use hot water, but I ended up just twisting them off. I realized I could do this after there was wax stuck to a wick.
5. Remove the glue. I used soap, sponge, and eventually a cotton ball saturated in nail polish remover.
6. If you wish, remove the labels. I just scrapped the wet bottom label off with the knife. Nail Polish remover will get rid of excess adhesive.
I gave mine a quick rub down with dish cleaner, and I also left the candle label on. I think it looks so cute that way, and since I'm not decorating the jar, there wasn't a need to remove it. Plus it gives it that little candy shop feel with all the colors.

You can really use these jars for so many things, and it's really useful since these candles are $20 a pop off sale. This method should work for all candles, and I am thinking about using my crap Avon candle jar for a q-tip holder.

How often do you repurpose things? Do you find it's easier to spend money on something when you know you can reuse its container for something else?
