Julep Instant Warming Foot Scrub | NotReallyAReview

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Claims that it's a foot scrub that warms up on contact.

It's a scrub, you know, like a normal scrub. It does the job and does it well. That's not the part that I wanted to review. This is going to be a brief review, but it's not really a review. I mainly wanted to talk about the warming part of this scrub and share my thoughts.

It doesn't warm on contact, like the back of the bottle claims. It does warm up when it's rubbed into the skin. Now, this warming is a weird sensation. I didn't feel it so much on my foot as I did on my hands, and the warming sensation only lasted for a few seconds. Not very long. The sensation is similar to the water being a bit too hot. It doesn't burn or hurt, is basically what I'm trying to get at, but warm is a bit of an understatement. Especially that first time it's used. I was shocked when I first tried it out. I wasn't expecting it to be so warm.

The smell is amazing. It's that spa smell of cucumber mint, the one I love.

It's really expensive. I don't know why Julep's products cost so much. It bugs me, because I want it to be more affordable. I don't want to say they're not worth the money, but in a way, I feel like the money could be used on something similar for less. I guess it's personal preference.

Overall, I like it, but I wouldn't run out to get it. I got in a Maven box, and I'm glad I was able to try it. It's so different.

Julep and Orly Dupes

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Julep Julia and Orly Oui.

Julia is on the pointer and ring finger, and Oui is on the middle and pinkie. Pretty identical when all is said and done. Oui was more opaque, and generally easier to apply, but the end result is basically the same.

Orly Androgynie and Julep Patti

Patti is on the pointer and ring finger, and Androgynie is on the middle and pinkie Androgynie has more of a dark brown base, and its glitter is colorful. Patti is black with silver bits. Patti also has more glitter pay off than Androgynie. But, Androgynie is more opaque and only required two coats, where Patti needed three. Close, but not exact, but Patti is a good compromise if you really want something similar to Androgynie.

Orly Oui and Androgynie were released in 2011, and are easily some of my favorite polishes. Recently Julep released some colors that look really close to those two, and I decided to compare them together. I'm very happy with Oui and Julia. Julia is a great dupe for Oui, but Patti falls a little short in the dupe department, but on its own it's beautiful.

Labeling Julep | quick tip

Monday, February 11, 2013

I was thinking today about my nail polish collection, and how people like to put a little bit of polish on top of the caps to make it easier to find the color. The only issue I have with seeing to color are with my Julep bottles. Julep came out with a batch of Swatch Me stickers. I know they came with a Maven box, I didn't not get that one, and I haven't seen them online yet.

I decided to take the cheaper route, and grab my hole reinforcements. I cut them into four parts, and placed them on the caps. I them popped the cap off (super easy to do), and put the polish on the sticker.

Quick, cheap, and super simple. I don't know how this will work for other brands, I know the Butter London caps pop off (there's no other way to use them without popping them off), but I don't know of any others.

Julep Boris and Nicole | Swatch

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Julep Boris and Nicole is a red tinted copper shimmer. The color difference that you see is true to color. When the second coat is applied, the color turns to a more reddish tint. It's a beautiful color, regardless, and perfect for fall.

Julep Kylie - Magnet

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Magnet directional arrows? I really have no idea what to call that, and I realize it's kind of misleading if you don't know the context of it. Those are the directions that I pointed the magnet, if you are confused.

Anywho I tried Kylie the other day and decided to play around with my nail wheels again. For some odd reason I was able to get the magnet to work on there, and not one my actual nails. Highly annoying, no idea what I was doing wrong. If you want a swatch without the magnet being used, just let me know and I will get right on that. It's actually a pretty color on its own.

Have you tried a magnetic nail polish? What do you think of the trend? Personally, I think it's silly. Looks cool, though, I have to admit.

Julep Lip Veris in Camellia

Friday, July 13, 2012

I was so excited when I saw that Julep was bringing Lip Gloss to the July box. To be honest, when I first heard that they were thinking about this I was expecting more red shades, like all of them red, to go along with the 4th of July holiday. I was pleasantly surprised with the pink shades, and even the coral one! The one I received was Camellia, a pale soft pink with a slight shimmer to it.

Camellia and all of Julep's Lip Vernis retail for $18.
Maven price is $14.40 with free shipping.

Do you guys like these posts? The lip product ones, I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. I figured I could test it out with my readers, and see how you react. Let me know! Don't be afraid to tell me that you hate it =)

Julep O Canada!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Formulation of this glitter is much better than America. Not goopy at all. It's also not as opaque, but it is definitely buildable.

Colors Used
Pointer is Essie Too Too Hot with a single thick coat of O Canada!
Middle is one coat of O Canada!
Ring finger is Point Blanc as a base, and a single thick coat of O Canada!
Pinky is two coats of O Canada!

My July 4th Manicure

Thursday, July 5, 2012

I apologize for not post this yesterday. This is the first time I did anything related to this holiday. I'll be honest, it's not one of my favorites. Since I first started showing rabbits any holiday that includes fireworks gives me anxiety. Having rabbits for nearly half my life, and most living outside, you can imagine how worried I was about them. We're quite close to where our town celebrations, and it's not uncommon for me to bring in the ones who look frightened. Most are not bothered by the noise. A lot of mine have gone through the noise before, so I felt a little more relieved. Because of this I was feeling partially patriotic so I decided to take the simple wrap and follow the Julep Pinterest NOTD idea.

As you can see I made a smaller tip, I prefer this look with my French tips. I also only put two starts, and placed them on specific nails. This nail polish.. *sigh* America you are not my favorite nail polish. The way I described this to my husband is that I feel like someone took a glitter sh*t in my bottle. The brush was covered completely in clumps. It wasn't too bad to apply, but it was clumpy. With this polish, from what I've seen, is 50/50 on clumpness. I did have stars in mine, and there were reports of people not have any. It was also a pain in the rear end to get smooth and I applied at least 5 coats of top coat, which will explain the bubbles.

Regardless of the headache, it looks pretty!

Polish used:
China Glaze Frost Bite
Julep America
Revlon Colorstay Top Coat

Julep Maria

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

This was one of my first colors form Julep, and it was around the time I was obsessed with metallicy shades. I also did a comparison with this and Poetic a while back, and this one is more on the purple side. Very nice though, glad they're not similar.

Oh my Julep!

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

For July Julep is adding on a FREE nail polish to every one's Maven box. Depending on your location, you will get one of the above. If you're in the US, you get America the Beautiful. The great thing is, if you're in love with O Canada (I know I am!) you can opt to use the Add On feature that Julep has been using for the past few months. All of the products that are included in the boxes, lip & nail polish, are able to be "added on". Up to two products for $4.99 each.

Also new this month, Julep has put a lip product (lip gloss) into every box. I had a feeling they would add a lip product. On their Facebook page they asked how everyone would feel about that, something they like to do every month, and I'm sure a lot of people said they would. I love Julep for their ability to listen to their customers. I was skeptical about lip products, but I think they did really well. I love the colors this month too, so much variety. This is the month to get a golden box, in my opinion!

I am excited! I have intentions to switch my style from American Beauty to Classic With A Twist, and add on at least O Canada. I am so excited for this box!!!
