Packing small

Lately I've been passing up my purses for a wristlet. It's so much easier to carry, and I don't feel the need to bring my life with me everywhere. Plus it's so east to grab it and go.

I'm not a huge fan of their signature print (I think that's what it's called). But, when the opportunity arrises, I can't turn it down. My husband actually got this for free. He works for a major car dealership, and they were able to pick an item because they met a quota, or something. I honestly can't remember exactly what it was. Anywho, he picked this, and gave it to me.

It's a nice little wristlet, it holds the essentials, and is really convenient.

Inside I have my phone and earbuds. There's also a couple of dollar bills (shocker I have cash, I normally don't), bank cards (debit, Target Red card, and my lone CC), and a nail file. That last one, is probably one of the most important items in the wristlet. It becomes an OCD thing with me whenever a nail breaks. I have to get it smooth again. Drives me crazy. I also have two lip products. Burt's Bees lives in there, and I swap out the lip color on occasion. The Color Whisper has been in there for a while, though.

Everything fits in there snuggly. If I'm going out with a friend, and my husband isn't with me, I'll attach the house keys to the clip. If he's with me, he has his set, so there's no need to add the extra bulk. I normally have my health card with me, but since I've only been going out places with my husband lately, I don't bother wit it, because he has one in his wallet.

What are your wristlet must haves? Do you ever feel like you miss your purse when you carry one?

Getting lippy with spring | part one

lipstick

lipstick
From top to bottom: Revlon LB Candy Apple, Maybelline CW Pink Possibilities, Revlon JBK Honey

I have no idea what the trends are for this spring. I know I've seen a lot of pastels, which I'm happy with, pastels are my favorite. All I know, for sure, is that I am following the brand/product trend. I'm normally not afraid to branch out, but when it comes to lip products I'm very careful. Simply because I don't know what looks good on me yet. I showed half of these products in my most recent haul. It's still pretty early in spring, and we still have summer to go through, so these will probably change.

I'm not too big on red, but the Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple is just sheer enough that it doesn't make me look like a pale mess. I've been wearing this one off and on for a few months not. It's not very long lasting, but it is a lip butter, so I didn't expect it to be.

The Maybelline Color Whisper (Pink Possibilities) is the one I thought I would like the least. To me it feels better than the Revlon Lip Butter. It's more moisturizing, and I don't apply my Burt's Bees as often. The color isn't as opaque as a lipstick, but not as sheer as some of the Lip Butters I've tried.

If you have a Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, chances are it's Honey. I can honestly see why this is the go-to for so many women. It wears really well, and the color is amazing. I like using this one on a work day. It's easy to apply, and I don't really need a mirror.

Lastly is the love of my life; Burt's Bees. My lips would be nothing if it wasn't for this lip balm. I've been using this religiously for at least six years. I had to include it, just this once.

What are some of your favorite lip products for spring? What is your go-to shade? I've been gravitating toward pinks lately, as you can tell.

Foot pampering day!

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I value my feet, and the care I put into them. The hold me up, and are just as important in my day to day life as my hands, so why shouldn't I pamper them on my day off?

If you don't like feet, or it grosses you out, do not continue reading. I hide nothing in this post, since feet don't personally bother me. =) Products mentioned are listed below with links.

The first thing I do is apply the Best Pedi Prep Ever! on the hard parts of my feet. Let that sit for a bit (about 3 minutes), and use my foot file to scrape it off. Now, this isn't an instant thing, it wont smooth the skin out instantly, which I personally would prefer. That's where my foot mask comes in. Mine is from Avon. I run the towels (kitchen hand towels) under hot water, apply the mask generously (as in I use way too much), and wrap the towels around my feet. I leave that on for 5 minutes or so, and wipe the mask off. It doesn't harden like most masks do.

After I let my feet dry a little I apply lotion. Normally I use a Julep one, but today I used one that I bought on sale at Target. After I massage it into my skin, I slip socks on to trap in the moisture, and relax. When I take my socks off, the look so much smoother, and nicer.

It's a process that I like to do after all the housework is finished, and when I'm ready have some time to relax, and not get up for a while.

Kitty! That's Magic, he's my dad's cat.

Products I use

The Best Pedi Prep Ever and Julep Foot File (currently out of stock, but I'm sure you can find a replacement)- Check out Avon's Foot Works line, they have great products for foot care. Bath & Body Works is also a great option, I have used many of their products in the past.
Paraffin Moisture Treatment Mask
J.R. Watkins Hand & Body Lotion - Grapefruit (Just use a lotion of your choice. As long as it's moisturizing, it doesn't matter the brand. This one was what I preferred at the moment).
Hand Towels - Whatever you have at home. I suggest soft plush ones. They feel nicer =)
Socks - Whatever you wish to use. Again, soft plush ones feel better. Mine were a gift for Christmas, I think from Kohls, but I'm not sure.

How often do you pamper your feet? Do you tend to neglect them? I used to, but living in Florida I walk around in flip flops even in the dead of winter, so I've become more aware of my feet. Btw, dead of winter is like 40 degrees F here, so not too bad.

After Thoughts | Reviews revisited part 1

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

After I test out a product, and after I use it for a while, I find that my opinions on it change. Sometimes I love a product more, other times I love it less. I'm going to start a mini series of posts where I bring back some products that I've reviewed, or talked about, in the past, and tell you all what I think about it now. I think this will be a pretty interesting journey.

concealer

I first talked about this in my Updated Daily Essentials post. I never did a proper post about it, but it was featured, so I have to talk about it. When the post was made, I said this: "I bought this after my mom raved about it. I like it, but I don't think it's my holy grail. I'm still looking!"

So, has that opinion changed? Sort of. It's not my holy grail, but I do like it more than I did now. It's supposed to be an under the eye concealer, but I like it all over. I have a lot of redness on my skin, and I like to put this on before my foundation. I use my beauty blender dupe to blend it in after I apply it, then I apply my foundation. Then I go back and apply it under my eyes, and blend it in again with the sponge (so confusing!). Lastly I take it and lightly brush it on my problem areas. The covers it even more, and it doesn't require any blending. I love the way it looks when I do this routine.

The only con is that the sponge and product gets really disgusting. Look at it, there is no way that's hygienic! And yet, I continue to use it. It's depressing, really.

eyeliner

I did do a proper review on this product, and it was sent to me for review by their PR company. I think it's their PR company, I'm not 100% positive. I didn't pay for it, that's what I'm trying to get at.

Anywho, I originally loved it. "The supper pointy end made the application a breeze." That statement is still true. But, where the product falters, and after using it for about four months, is that it's become harder to apply. It's not as easy as it was. It's not as pointy, but it's still pretty small at the tip.

"I swatched it on my hand immediately, and then went to sleep. It was there the next day, looking as fresh as it did when I applied it the previous day." The wear is not as good as it used to be. I'm really sad about this. I wore it on New Years Eve, and spent the night at a friend's house. The eye liner was perfect the next morning. However, for the past few months I've tried to do the same thing, and it's basically been non-existent.

The picture above shows how the product swatches today. The faint lines are me trying to achieve the same thin line in my original review. The thick ones are from the thicker end of the applicator. The formula just isn't reaching the tip for some reason.

I also want to mention that this swatch was after I ran it under water to test how waterproof it still is, and after I took a napkin and dabbed the water off. The lines are exactly as they were before the waterproof test, and I'm not exaggerating. It may not be as fine as it was, but it's still completely waterproof.

First off, I don't know what I did with the brush. I think I threw it away. I stopped using it for a while, and since I purchased a new foundation (Maybelline Fit Me in the lightest shade) I have a use for it. I mentioned in the review that it was a bit too dark for me, but as long as I was light with it, and didn't pile it on, it would be fine. Well, the Fit Me foundation is a bit too light for me at the moment. I was shocked, I must have gotten a slight tan in the past few months, which doesn't happen. Ever. I figured this powder would be able to fix that problem, and it does.

I use it instead of my Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, which I'm still trying to finish up. I still use the same brush with it, and still use the same technique. Basically my opinion hasn't changed since the initial review, and I still love it.

I never did get to use it as my foundation, but I'm still holding out!

*The Pixi Lash Line Ink was sent for review
Everything else was purchased by me

Essie Madison Ave-Hue | Swatch

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

In yesterdays post I expressed concern for the fine glitter. Basically I was worried that it would be like Bikini So Teeny, and the glitter wouldn't show up. As you can plainly see by the swatches below, that is not the case. The glitter isn't obvious, but it is there.

I also want to mention the brush. Has anyone else experienced a wonky brush? There was this one hair that I wanted to pluck off. It's not impossible to work around, but it isn't straight.

Madison Ave-Hue is part of the Essie 2013 Spring Collection.

So, I bought some stuff this month. . .

Monday, April 8, 2013

I'm calling this my Spring haul simply because I don't buy make up very often. I don't know why. I want to, I look, and gawk at the products whenever I go near any, I just don't reach out and pick anything up. Weird.

On Friday I went to Target on a mission to pick up some lip products, and ended up getting more than I wanted too. I also placed an order for some Avon nail polished with my mom, and those arrived on Saturday.

So, here's a look at some of the products I plan on reviewing/using/probably loving.

The ELF eye liner was bought on impulse. I was browsing around looking for a new liquid eyeliner. I'm the type of person who likes to do some sort of research first, and I didn't even know where to begin with eyeliners. I walked past the little ELF section, saw this, and figured that for $1, I couldn't really go wrong. First impression: I really like it! I'm pleasantly surprised.

I posted a wish list in February, and the Maybelline Color Tattoo was on it. I didn't get the color I originally wanted, instead I picked up Inked in Pink. I already like them better than the Avon cream shadows, which is the only other cream shadows I've ever tried.

Avon Sparkling Red Rouge (the red glitter one)- It looked more pint in the catalog, but that's ok. I really like it, the silver glitter makes it look different than China Glaze Ruby Pumps.

Avon Inspire (yellow)- I don't have a pale yellow, and that's pretty much why I bought this one. It was on sale, and I figured why not?

Mark Mint Tea and Saffron came as a set. I wanted Mint Tea because it reminds me of Chanel Peridot, and I don't have a dupe for that one yet. I wish I had the actual color to compare. The other one is a pretty gold color. I really like them. They were in the What's New catalog, and should be available soon, if not now.

Essie Madison Ave-Hue- Oh my gosh this is such a pretty color. Pink with silver glitter. It reminds me of Bikini So Teeny, with the cream color and subtle glitter. I haven't swatched it yet, so I don't know if I'm going to run into the same problem where the glitter doesn't show up. I'll do a swatch soon and let you all know. The glitter is so fine that I am a bit worried.

The best for last. I went a bit crazy. To some of you, this is nothing, but I am not a lip gal. I own four Revlon Lip Butters, and 3 lip glosses. I use only about 3 of those products, and that's when I remember to put them on. I don't know what inspired me, but I wanted a lot. I just kept picking them up, and even my husband grabbed one for me. He kept wanting me to get a purple color, but I told him no.

Some of these are from that wish list, and some are ones that I've wanted for a while.

The Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick is literally the first lipstick I've ever bought. This Lasting Finish shade is 12. Red with an orange tint, or orange with a red tint, I can't really tell the difference yet. I really really like it. I'm kind of obsessed with it right now.

I did pick up a Maybelline Color Whisper, but it's not in the shade I originally wanted. I chose Pink Possibilities, and I tired it out last night. Gorgeous color. These lipsticks are making me wonder what I've been doing with my life. I feel like I've been missing out. Now I understand why girls carry around so many different colors in their bags.

I also grabbed a Loreal Colour Riche Caresse in the shade I originally wanted; Coral Tattoo. This is also my first ever Loreal Paris product ever.

To go along with the firsts theme, I picked up two Covergirl lipsticks/gloss/balm/whatever. These are the first Covergirl products I've ever tried. The first one is the Jumbo Gloss Stain in Ruby Twist. I wanted something a bit more orange, but the hubby suggested this one.Hey, he picked out the Neutrogena lip gloss that I love, so I do value his opinion when it comes to these sorts of things. Even if he is color blind... Moving along! I also picked up the Blast Flipstick in Glimmer which is two colors in one. He got his plum color, and I got a nice dark pink shade. This was the Hubby's suggestion. He's strange.

Lastly the company with the longest product names on the planet Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey. I wanted it, I bought it. Nothing much to say. It smells really nice, though. That's a plus.

-------------

That's it. That's my crazy adventure that I spent way too much time on in Target. Let me know if you've used any of these products before, and which shades you suggest. I'm trying to venture out of my comfort zone a bit, without going too bold. Just throw some suggestions at me, I don't have any friends who wear makeup, so you guys and other bloggers are all I have in the beauty world. That sounded more desperate than I intended...

Mermaid's Tears | OPI Dupe

Thursday, April 4, 2013

For Christmas I received Do My Back Please. Immediately I noticed a resemblance to Mermaid's Tears. I finally got around to doing a comparison of the two, and I figured for fun I'd include Don't Be Jade, which is too bright, but since it's Avon, the comparison may help some.

Key:
1. OPI Do My Back Please?
2. OPI Mermaid's Tears - Swatch
3. Avon Don't Be Jaded

It's pretty obvious that the two OPI colors (1 and 2) are identical. I thought one would have more of a grey tint to it, but I was wrong. Upon swatching them I noticed that there aren't any differences. Good news! If you missed Mermaid's Tears (2011 Pirates of the Caribbean Collection) you can pick up a dupe. I'm pretty sure this is in the regular collection.

The Avon color is the obvious odd ball. I think I have a color that's similar to it, so I'll have to dig it out and do a swatch comparison if I do. I don't know if you can still get this color, but it is a pretty one.

I also wanted to mention that Hellocotton is officially closing its doors on April 11th. If you follow my blog through Hellocotton you can use the links below, or to the side, if you want to continue receiving updates from my blog. Same goes for your favorite bloggers. Most have alternate means of subscribing, but you can always use a RSS reader like Reeder or Feedly for those who don't. GFC should be safe, but Google Reader is also shutting down in case you missed that as well. Hey, it could happen. I take a break for the internet from time time and miss a lot of stuff.
