Confession Tuesday

I think that I need to address something. I don't know if it's been annoying you guys, but it's something that's been on my mind for a while. I never meant for this blog to turn from strictly a nail polish blog to a beauty/nail polish/border line lifestyle blog. I started this blog to talk about stuff that mattered to me, and at the time it was nail polish. Now my interests are expanding and there will be more on the blog than just nail polish. It's going to expand even more. I could create a new blog, but I don't want to. I feel like if I do, I would neglect one, or just get overwhelmed with having a fourth blog to look after.

Credit
This doesn't mean that I'm going to cut out nail polish, it mainly means that I'll be posting close to every day about various things. Does that make sense? There's only so much that I can do with a nail blog that isn't nail art. I don't do nail art, too fancy for me. Swatches, the occasional design, comparisons, there's only so much that I can do with it. I think that's why I began drifting to other ends of the genre.

I do want to say thank you for those of you that have stuck with me through this transition, it means a lot to me.

I bought some fabric. I've been wanting to create something for a while, and I think I'm satisfied with making pillows. At least for now. My goal is to do patchwork with these. I'll share them when I'm done. I'm going to have fun with these. The one of far the left says "Be my valentine". It's the end of July, not sure about that one, but the colors matched what I was looking for. The bunch on the right was a bundle of 5 that I didn't have to pair up! Love it. That one will be sewed with orange thread. I need to make a way for it to show.... =P

So, let me know what you think about what I posted at the beginning of this post, I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I'm unsure about how I feel myself.

Green/blue Comparisons

I was curious about how the above colors compared to each other, and I figured that I can't be the only one! I heard a lot about how much people were comparing Mermaid's Tears to For Audrey. I even read that that Mermaid's Tears is everything they wanted For Audrey to be. I'm just glad that none of them are that alike!

My attempt at an ombre/gradient

Monday, July 30, 2012

Or could it be considered a "sad" attempt? I began in the right direction, but I don't know what happened at the end. This was also during my July pink phase, so bare with me! I got sponges though, so expect a *better* ombre in the future.

Colors- Essie (thumb to pink)
Meet Me At Sunset
Vermillionare
Cute As A Button
Off the Shoulder
Cascade Cool

Do you have any ombre/gradient manicure tips? I'm having issues getting colors that *fade* when applied. They look cool lined up, but that's as far as it goes.

Flowers, Talk, and Blog Swap

Saturday, July 28, 2012

I've been wanting to do a "talky" type of post for a little bit now. I also felt like doing some light editing to pictures. I'm no photographer or master editor, and I'll never claim to be one, but it's something that I like to do. Can you believe that the pictures in this post were taken during the winter? It doesn't get very cold here in the winter. The last picture is unedited, and I am STILL surprised my camera got that bee despite it's lack of a macro lens.

I was in a nail polish funk today. I tried at least 7 different polishes, and immediately took them off. Currently my nails are naked. One of those days, I suppose.

I wanted to let everyone know that I am offering to do a blog banner/button swap. If you want to know how to create one, or more importantly, how to get the the links and stuff working, head on over to The Wonder Forest to learn how. I love getting to know new blogs, and I also love advertising them. It's a great way to get your blog out there, and also find new blogs. I will try to get as many up there, but I think I will only be able to do about 10 new buttons.

7 Slots Left!

All you have to do:
- grab a button of your choice (if you want one with specific dimensions, let me know)
- let me know that you've added it, and I will ad yours! E-mail or comment on this post, please.
If you don't have time to make one, or don't want to, let me know. I'll do it for free and send you the code. All I ask is your blog link, and creative freedom =)

Do you watch the Olympic games? What did you think of the opening ceremony? I loved the Corgis, actually. It was a great opening ceremony. Did anyone else think "the one ring to rule them all" when they were forging the giant ring? No, just me? It's ok, I'm weird =D

Nook Simple Touch Review

Friday, July 27, 2012

Webcam picture. Wonderful, no? Sorry about the flipped picture, that's what I get for using a computer. It seriously looked better this way, though. I remember seeing this thing (real descriptive, I know) that what you see in the mirror is different than what people see. Just watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UVioyNjgsc&feature=plcp#t=9m55s (9:55 to about 11:30, but it should jump to the former).

Totally enlightened moment there! Anywho that is why I kept it this way even after I flipped it, or I assume that is the reason since I like the way this one looks than the other. ENOUGH ABOUT ME! The real star is the Nook Simple Touch =)

I know, this is a pretty off topic post, but I've mentioned in past blog posts how much I love my Nook. A lot of the features I haven't been able to use since I've been reading the same book since I got it. I keep forgetting I have it, sad and dumb I know! I really have gotten out of the habit since I took a hiatus due to high school. I'm the type of person that if I'm forced to do it, I wont like it, and reading outside of school wasn't any fun anymore. I'm working on it though!

Pride and Prejudice, first chapter

It has a lot of the same features that the ever popular Kindle has. It is missing is the text to speech option, which is fine by me. If you hold your finger on the word for a second or two it will highlight it, and give you four options; highlight, add note, share, and look up. The look up option is the dictionary which is real helpful when reading a book with words that the reader may not be familiar with. Can anyone say textbooks? E-readers (probably the colored versions more) are PERFECT for college students!

When you're reading a PDF file the only thing that you can change is text size. No highlighting options are available. You can still search within the file to find something, and chapters are still useable if the file has them included, i.e. a school catalog would still have chapters, but a plain research paper that is saved as a PDF file would not.

So, why did I choose the Nook Simple Touch over the Kindle?

  1. Cheaper - I bought it for $75 during the mother's day sale.
  2. No Ads - I don't care if I can buy the version/pay to have them removed, the fact I have to pay to remove ads on something that I already bought annoys me so much!
  3. Physical Stores - I like going to a real store if I need issues. I don't like calling tech support, so if I can ever walk into a store and have them look at it, that makes me happy.
  4. Expandable Memory - I like this option, even though I highly doubt I will ever need it.

The text is really clear, and I don't see any words or images burned onto the screen after it "refreshes" itself, and erases the previous e-ink which it does every time I wake up the Nook, and after 6 page turns.

Features that would be a deciding factor, but didn't matter to me:
MP3 playing capability
Web browsing
Text to speech

I love the size. It fits into both of my small clutches/purses. It's light weight, and really thin! I also love that I can change the screensaver to whatever I please, which I think is going to be the cover of the current book I'm reading (I have to manually import it).

18 Karat Gold Nail Polish?

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Image property of OPI form the OPI facebook fan page

OPI announced a new nail polish today titled "The Man With the Golden Gun". This will be an exclusive set to be released for the 2012 Fall James Bond Collection.

Quote from the OPI Facebook page: "We have a VERY special treat in store for all of you this Holiday! In celebration of James Bond’s Golden Anniversary we are releasing our first-ever 18 karat gold leaf top coat “The Man with the Golden Gun”
Inspired by the world of 007, this stunning top coat contains real 18 karat gold and comes packaged in a special limited edition collectable gold bottle – the ultimate holiday gift! Available this October"
I don't even think I want to know the price tag that will be on this beauty. Certainly not the normal around $8.00 price tag we're used to! It will be interesting to see this one in person though.

What do you think of this? Think you may get it regardless of the price tag? I doubt I will. Even if I liked it, I don't think I would want to use it.

Essie Your Hut or Mine

Please excuse my gross cuticles/skin in the last picture. I have been neglecting them. Such a bad nail blogger! I'll try to keep up with them more.

Anywho, this is a lovely color! It reminds me of OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, does anyone know of a comparison? It has a gold, pink, and purple shimmer to it, and is really easy to remove. I got it, or my friend got it for me, at TJ Maxx. $3.99, not a bad price!

Pink Comparison - Essie and OPI

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Essie Pink-A-Boo is a light pink filled with micro glitter in shades of purple and pink. It is sheer, and requires about 3 to 4 coats to become completely opaque. OPI Pedal Faster Suzi is a deeper shade of pink filled with white micro glitter. This one only required 2 to 3 coats for complete opacity.

Sinfully Shocked

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I read a little bit ago that Sinful Colors is being accused of stealing photos of bloggers photos. As far as I know, only two have been notified. Below is a post written by Paint Box Polish, the blogger that I found out about this from.

The bloggers that have been effected (or is affected? I was always confused by that):
The Swatchaholic - http://the-swatchaholic.com/
The post about the issue: http://the-swatchaholic.com/?p=6081

Swatch and Learn - http://www.swatchandlearn.com/
Her post about the issue:http://www.swatchandlearn.com/blog-news-sinful-colors-used-my-photos-in-their-pamphlet-without-permission-distributed-it-in-walgreens/

I don't understand how an established company like Sinful Colors could think that it's ok to do this. I hope the bloggers get justice, and if you see the brochure (available at Walgreens), please have a look and see if you can see if other pictures have been stolen from other bloggers.

I don't own any Sinful Colors, and I wont be buying any after this. How do you feel about all this? I'm shocked, personally.

EDIT: Here is a link to a petition that you can sign to fight what they did. It can happen to any of us.
http://www.change.org/petitions/revlon-and-sinful-colors-stop-stealing-photos-from-nail-bloggers

Sorry for all the complete url's, I want to make sure people can get to the page, if you know what I mean.

Basin Buys

I try my hardest to go to Basin every time I go to Disney. They just reopened the store in the Marketplace at Downtown Disney. I love their bath bombs the best, and they have new treasures to play with! I opted to go light this round, only picking up three bath bombs and two different soaps.

$4.99 ea. OR 3 for $12.00
Pirate Treasure
"Ahoy Matey! Thar be a surprise pirate treasure in every bath bomb!"

$4.99 ea. OR 3 for $12.00
Viva la Juicy
"An irresistible blend of honeysuckle, spring blossoms, and juicy citrus fruits."

$4.99 ea. OR 3 for $12.00
Hidden Treasure
"Whimsical and delightful - inside each bath bomb is a surprise too!"

Tea Tree
"Enriched with tea tree oil to treat acne and prevent brakeouts. Added peppermint oil cools and nourished oily skin."

Fluffy Pet Soap
"We've added essential oils to inhibit buggy invaders and aloe vera to soothe any itches. Your cat or dog will thank you!"

If you've been brave enough to use this on your cat, let me know! I will be using it on my dog, I enjoy that my cat likes me, and I want to keep it that way lol.

That's all that I got from my latest trip to Basin. I want to do a review of the Tea Tree soap, It smells lovely! There are so many good things that tea tree oil can do. I haven't opened them, and I don't want to until I'm ready to use them to keep them nice.

Quotations are copied from the signs at the store.

butter LONDON | The Black Knight

Monday, July 23, 2012

Love love LOVE this color! This is the one Butter London polish I wanted, ever since seeing it for last years holiday collection. I think it's been added to the regular collection despite its "limited edition" label. I could be wrong though.

As you can see by the last picture it is a multi colored glitter with a black base (so literal with the name!). The glitter colors appear to be fuchsia, red, blue, gold, and maybe a little bit of green. The polish on my nails is The Black Knight over OPI Lincoln Park After Dark. The swatch on the far left is three coats of polish, but I think 2 would suffice.

If you saw a color that you instantly fell in love with, would you buy it even with a hefty $14 price tag?
